Hi Laurent,
I understand that. It would be indeed nice to have that. The problem, however, is that many people would not click on the image and find out that AstroBin exists, or be reminded that AstroBin exists, and maybe decide to register.
So I'm afraid that doing so would only cost me money without bringing in new users on AstroBin.
Obviously AstroBin has spread among the astrophotographers because people share the links to their images on the forums. People click them and learn about AstroBin, and sign up themselves.
This week I'm working on trying to optimize my image hosting expenses. If it turns out I can save some money, then I will add a "Medium" sized thumbnail, 500px or something, slightly compressed, with an AstroBin watermark in the top-left corner, that people can use to share on the forums.
Would 500px be fine or would it still miss the point entirely?

most people will not click on the image if they can see it already so big.
So the same still holds true: if you link like this you are taking advantage of me. AstroBin is free, and I'm just a person, not a big company like Yahoo that owns Flickr.
Hotlinking (which is what you describe in this post) is not allowed by AstroBin's Terms of Service: http://www.astrobin.com/tos/

dans le but d'héberger mes images et de pouvoir les partager sans qu'elles ne soient trop réduites , je voulais me servir d'Astrobin......le problème , c'est que mes images sont toutes noires .....mais pourquoi ...... serais-je frappé d'ostracisme par la communauté des astrophotographes ..... promis pour les prochaines , je m'appliquerai ...... sinon , si quelqu'un veut bien me dire ce qui se passe ...... parce qu'en plus j'ai une image des pleïade avec un astéroïde qui se ballade et que j'aimerai faire identifier .....

For me, the only problem is the very long time to display an image at full resolution. Sometimes, I quit because I have no time.
I don't know if it's possible, but a light preview at full size could accelerate the download.
In order to have a better idea of the image, I would like to look it at full size but in JPEG format.
Compress an image by 30% allows to save 60% of space, and a lot of downloading time.
But if the image is very nice, I take time to display it in full resolution
There already *is* a preview of the image, and it is the one you see in the image's page, at about 700px in width. Compressing full-size images is not something that should be done, as it can be seen easily.
This is the first complaint I get that the downloads are slow. The servers are in the USA, but I experience the same speed both when I'm in Europe and when I'm in the USA (or when I run tests from a USA based server).
What I could do, tho, is saving the full size image both uncompressed, and also compressed. When you click, I could quickly load the compressed version, so you quickly see something, and *then* start loading the uncompressed version.
But that would imply an additional cost of operation for me, so I can't do it before AstroBin can sustain itself financially.

That I would fix like this:

Don't worry too much, let's just improve things that are clearly improvable. The goal is not to have a really tidy database, that will *never* happen. The goal is to have a largish set of the most used objects, that are kinda consistent.
I will later merge all the objects that can be merged, so that they are shared among more used.
Don't worry for the 'delete' button. Some people have written a lot of stupid things, but it happens :-) They didn't understand that what they wrote was going to a community shared database.
I will write a script that cleans up items that have no images associated.

A campaign to sort out the mess in the Gear database.
I was saying, the Gear database is a little messy, but we can fix it! I've setup a way to all collaborate to improving the items in the database. We can submit corrections, and things will be merged where necessary. I also have a server-side routine that I will run as a script to merge the names of the makes.
A page for every gear item, with images, plots, user reviews and comments!
This is the feature I'm most excited about. Now each gear item will have its own page, and there, users can post reviews and comments. All the owners of a certain gear item, will receive a notification when there's a new review or comments. It's perfect for asking question about something that you have bought or want to buy, and get answers from the owners! :-)
So, please have a look around, help with fixing the Gear database, and have fun with the Gear pages! I expect many comments and reviews on gear items. ;-)
As usual, an incredibly large THANK YOU goes to all the translators that have done such a quick and good job this time too!

Hmm je pense que je comprends mieux votre question. Vous êtes inquiet sur le transfert à des gens du porno ou des images illégales.
Je pense que la meilleure façon de régler ce problème, consiste à ajouter un bouton qui permettra à tout utilisateur de signaler une image, de sorte que la collectivité peut décider.
Le site est assez petit pour que je puisse poser pendant 10 bénévoles répartis dans toutes les fuseaux horaires, et il serait trop travailler, mais je préfère que les utilisateurs peuvent télécharger leurs images sans délai.
(Hmm I think I now understand your question better. You are worried about people uploading porn or illegal images.
I think the best way to deal with this, is to add a button that will allow any user to flag an image, so the community can decide.
The site is small enough that I could ask for 10 volunteers spread across all the timezones, and it would work too, but I prefer that the users can upload their images without delay.)

- SECURITE : j'imagine que l'upload est sécurisé contre les petits malins qui pourraient déposer des virus via une URL à caractères masqués ...J'ai fait de mon mieux pour prévenir la perte de données dues aux attaques des pirates. Si cela devait arriver, AstroBin est protégé par des sauvegardes quotidiennes.

- RECHERCHE : sauf erreur de ma part, la recherche rapide semble rechercher les mots dans l'ensemble des attributs. Par exemple, j'ai cherché "ORION" et j'ai bien obtenu la nébuleuse, la constellation ... mais aussi VENUS qui avait été prise avec un réducteur de la marque "ORION". Pourquoi pas.Peut être faut il ajouter des critères de recherche sur l'objet lui meme en plus de la méthode d’acquisition.
De plus, serait il possible s'implementer un moteur de recherche version "tres avancée" du style "A et (B ou C)" avec A,B,C des phrases du type OBJET=M33, INSTRUMENT=TELESCOPE, OUVERTURE=400, EXPOSITION=20MN, ... En clair une requete SQL ouverte ...

Quand je m'inscris je ne sais pas quels sont les champs obligatoires. Il semble que ce soit le materiel et l'acquisition. Les zones rouges n'apparaissent que si j'y met quelque chose.Quand je fait une entree de materiel d'acquisition reconnu, exemple "Nikon D60" on me demande quand meme les caracteristiques du capteur, (choses que j'ignore) etc... il semble que cela devrait etre connu pusique presenté en tant que choix (ou du moins recupéré des saisies d'autres utilisateurs en esperant qu'elles soient coherentes !)
- UPLOAD : lors de l'upload, je ne peux entrer comme materiel que ce que j'ai entré dans mon profil. Je suis alors obligé de repasser par mon profil pour ajouter ces infos puis revenir dans l'upload.
Ce sont de bons points et je vais essayer de les améliorer!

Please don't do that, unless with moderation. A link like that will basically steal from AstroBin: it will consume my bandwidth and cost me personally money, and it will not let new user discover AstroBin.

On a very basic level, I could:

Let you skip the "Gear" and "Acquisition" details for drawings.On a more advanced level, there might be some types of data that only make sense for drawings. Would you like to suggest some meta-data that should be associated to drawings?
Now let's talk about #2, i.e. how to display the drawings.
Obviously, the single image display should be the same as the photographs, but what about the home page and the searches? Should they exclude drawings?
Should there be a completely separate page that shows drawings only?
Obviously there are a lot of questions :-)
It would be great if you could describe how you would like the site to behave with regards to drawings, and then I can cook something that will make the most people happy

after two hard months at work, I am very proud to announce the new iteration of AstroBin, with lots of cool additions and features! Here is a quick explanation of some of the things that just landed on astrobin.com:
Search by telescope and camera type.
The Advanced Search page has become even more... advanced! Now you can limit your searches to a certain type or telescope (be it apochromatic refractor, or Ritchey-Cretien, or Newtonian, and many more) or a certain type of camera (DSLR, CCD, planetary, ...).
It's easier now to plan your next purchase. For example: do you own a SBIG ST10 and want to know how it performs with apochromatic refractors? Now you search that on AstroBin!
Most popular subjects.
Heat to the Explore menu and you will find a link to a page that shows you what are the most popular subjects photographed in the sky. The list is categorized by month, and you can even select a latitude range (on Earth) to see what are the most popular subject photographed by people at your latitude. What a great way to find interesting targets for your next session!
Avatar support.
Let's give some faces to those usernames! Check your user menu: now you can upload an avatar: it will appear next to all your images.
Follow gear items and subjects.
Do you want to be notified each time an image is acquired with your favorite CCD, or telescope, or filter, of software? Do you want to be notified each time an image of a certain galaxy is uploaded? Now you can simply put your mouse cursor on the name of what you with to follow, and then click on the Follow button that will appear.
Favorites.
Now there's more than the 5-star voting mechanism to show appreciation to a certain image. Click on the Heart icon to add the image to your favorites. It will go to a new page within "My page", for you to remember. And the author might enjoy some popularity for their picture, as it might get promoted to the "Currently hot" panel on the front page!
Social front page.
Some additions join the "recently uploaded" images on the front page. Now you can see a currently hot image, and new images from the people you follow, and images recently favorited and voted 5-star (by anyone). A great way to discover great images!
Easier, more powerful and more complete Share menu.
There is now more control on how you can share images, and also social sharing on Facebook, G+ or Twitter, if you care for those!
Save time when filling in gear details for an image.
There is now a "Copy gear from image" button in your gear settings for every image: you can use to quickly import the same gear that you have used for another image in the past.
Each deep sky object has its own page.
Mouse over the name of a deep sky object, and click on "View page" in the window that appears. There you can get some data, images and interesting plots for that subject!
New plots in the Stats page.
Enough said, go check them out!

And now, for the curious and the techies, here's some goodness:

The UI front-end has been ported to twitter-boostrap: this allows for greater effectiveness of working on the UI, for some easy and cool UI elements (modal dialogs, tooltip, popovers, nice buttons, etc) and for better multi-browser support.
Caching
A few of the slowest parts of the website are now cached, so they will be faster.
Validation errors
A lot of validation error were fixed for the HTML.
Finally, a bunch of bugs was fixed too.
The amount of work has been colossal, to say the least. I have done my best to test everything, but if there are new bugs, please report them as soon as possible, so I can fix them!
I'd like to thank you all for being such an amazing community and for having treated this website really well. Thanks to you AstroBin has a reason to get better and better every day!

Salut à tous,
Je viens de pousser une mise à jour mineure pour le site. Les principales nouvelles fonctionnalités sont:
Vous pouvez maintenant effectuer une recherche par ouverture du télescope! Rendez-vous sur la page de recherche, développer la «vitesse supérieure», la section en cliquant sur le lien [+], et d'utiliser le curseur pour choisir une plage pour le diamètre du télescope en millimétrés.
Vous avez maintenant un complot pour les vues de chaque image, et aussi dans le monde pour votre profil.
Je coupais des points de vue en utilisant une interface à onglets, de sorte que votre page de profil n'est pas tellement de monde.
Il y avait quelques améliorations visuelles pour une meilleure cohérence d'assurance-chômage.
J'ai ajouté une option Nord / Sud et Est / Ouest pour la latitude et la longitude de vos emplacements, s'il vous plaît vérifier qu'ils vont bien ou d'ajuster en conséquence, il prend une minute!
Ensuite, j'ai fixé un tas de bugs mineurs, bien sûr. Nous espérons que vous apprécierez les ajouts.

Je vais ajouter le type de lentille de la caméra et le soir CHU filtre.
Je ne pense pas que je peux soutenir les valeurs multiples comme 18-55, en ce moment. Et je ne suis pas sûr sur les dessins: la sont déjà beaucoup de sites pour les croquis!

Salut à tous!
Un nouveau site a été mise à jour juste de sortir, y compris certaines caractéristiques fort impact.
Commentaires pour les images: même si je n'ai pas initialement plan de cela, beaucoup d'entre vous demandé cette fonctionnalité, si elle est ici!
Comment ça marche? Très simplement: chaque image peut être commenté, et chaque commentaire peut être répondu. Les commentaires sont filetés, donc il est facile de suivre plusieurs conversations. Ceci est mis en œuvre afin de travailler très vite: pas de rechargement de la page, pas de prévisualisation, aucune interface maladroite de naviguer à propos! Juste une interface très moderne et élégant, la capacité de modifier les commentaires sans douleur, supprimer et les récupérer.
Suffit de faire défiler vers le bas d'une page de l'image, et d'ajouter votre commentaire, ou répondre à certains commentaires d'autres. Ceci est intégré au système de notifications AstroBin, donc vous ne serez jamais rien manquer!
Un meilleur flux de travail pour les emplacements: Je dois admettre que c'était attendu depuis longtemps, mais la gestion des emplacements est désormais compatible avec le reste de l'expérience.
Tout que vous devez faire est d'aller dans "Modifier votre profil», et d'ajouter certains endroits. Puis dans "Modifier les informations de base" page de chaque image, vous pouvez facilement choisir parmi vos emplacements, comme vous le faites avec l'engin.
Les données pour les éléments vitesses: rappelez-vous que AstroBin prospère sur les données, et c'est la raison pour laquelle il existe. Vous pouvez maintenant modifier des détails supplémentaires pour tous vos articles de vitesse.
Si vous allez dans "Modifier votre profil» et choisissez Gear, vous verrez que les pièces d'engins sont maintenant dans des bulles d'orange tout en vous vous souvenez de blancs. Point de vitesse dans une bulle d'orange besoin de quelques informations, vous devez donc cliquer sur la petite icône Modifier (il ressemble à un stylo) et ajouter des détails supplémentaires pour cet élément de vitesse.
Si vous êtes approfondie avec les données, l'ensemble de la communauté bénéficieront grandement! Une fois que suffisamment de données se trouve, je vais lâcher quelques nouvelles recherches puissantes:
Par type de télescope
Par taille télescope
Par la longueur focale
Par taille de pixel CCD
Par filtre (H-alpha, clair, bande étroite dans Genal, ...)
Juste pour en nommer certains!

Malheureusement AstroBin ne peut pas héberger des images de toutes tailles possibles:) C'est pourquoi j'ai décidé de 720px, ce qui est assez petit pour tenir dans la plupart des beaux forums, et assez grand pour que l'image peut être vu ainsi.
Hotlinking (ce qui signifie en utilisant l'image sur le forum sans lier AstroBin) est possible, mais je n'encourage pas: il est à utiliser ma bande passante (il me coûte de l'argent) et les gens ne reçoivent pas de savoir AstroBin.

Par contre pour ma M42, j'ai jamais réussi à avoir l'image en taille réelle directement dans le poste de WA, seul la miniature + un lien vers astrobin a fonctionné...
Pas possible de mettre l'image en taille réelle directement sur le poste? On clic dessus et on se retrouve sur le site d'astrobin?

ce que vous demandez est possible: aller à la "Partager" menu et utiliser le texte dans la dernière case, pour partager un lien vers l'image en taille réelle, avec une miniature, sur le forum.

C'est avec grand plaisir que je vous annonce une autre mise à jour du site. Cela a été un fou, avec une quantité incroyable de travail qui s'est passé en seulement 9 jours!
Voici les nouveautés les plus importantes:
LE MARATHON MESSIER
Ceci est une page qui montre toutes les 110 objets Messier, et pour chaque objet, on est choisi parmi les images sur AstroBin. Comment est l'image choisie? Via un processus démocratique de nomination! Il ya un nouveau bouton appelé "Nommez pour le marathon de Messier», qui vous permet de donner sa voix à une image. L'image avec le plus de votes (aka nominations), sera en vedette sur la page de marathon.
Le grand mur
Ceci est une page présentant 100 images AstroBin (au lieu de 20 aujourd'hui le droit sur la page d'accueil), que vous pouvez trier et filtrer à volonté.
Quelques données sur le site global a été ajouté à la page de statistiques.
Il ya maintenant un nombre peu vous dire combien de nouvelles notifications / messages / demandes que vous avez.
Le site est maintenant beaucoup plus intelligent de reconnaître ce que vous tapez en tant que sujets.
Il y avait aussi beaucoup de corrections de bugs et de convivialité / concevoir des améliorations. Alors gardez le téléchargement, et n'oubliez pas de nommer des images pour le Marathon de Messier!

Bravo à toi et un grand merci à ce travail gigantesque ce qui m'a permis de m'inscrire et de l'utiliser très facilement. C'est d'ailleurs incroyable de voir la simplicité à l'utiliser.

Excellent ! ça y est, inscrit-> suggestion : permettre différents temps de pose comme 40x180s + 30x60s (pour M42 par ex)
-> pouvoir mettre le temps de pose et le bining pour chaque filtre
mais bon on peut le mettre dans les commentaire en attendant
Vous pouvez déjà le faire. Après avoir sélectionné ciel profond, dit le site:
"A l'aide de ce formulaire, vous pouvez indiquer les détails de base concernant l'acquisition de votre image. Si vous désirez être plus précis ou indiquer les détails pour chaque filtre, utilisez le formulaire avancé."
Cliché sur le Formulaire Avancé et vous pouvez faire ce que vous voulez
