(NASA) Lancement cargo de ravitaillement pour l'ISS (2024)

Le premier lancement de l'année sera un cargo Cygnus de Northrop-Grumman.

Il sera lancé par une Falcon 9 puisque le précédent lanceur dénommé Antares 230+ qui était utilisé pour lancer Cygnus  a terminé sa carrière (il était équipé de moteurs russes RD 181)

Pour effectuer le lancement de Cygnus avc une Falcon 9, Il a fallu réaliser quelques modifications au niveau de l'ogive du lanceur. Le vol a été repoussé au 30 janvier

The launch of the NG-20 resupply mission is targeted for no earlier than Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 12:07 p.m. EST (1707 GMT).

 

During a pre-flight teleconference on Friday (Jan. 26), William Gerstenmaier, vice president of Build and Flight Reliability at SpaceX, said that the Falcon 9's payload fairing, the shell that surrounds and protects a spacecraft during ascent while atop a rocket, had to be modified to add a hatch measuring 5 feet by 4 feet (1.5m by 1.2m). The hatch gives ground crews the ability to add extra "late-load" cargo before launch including special treats like ice cream for the astronauts aboard the space station, Gerstenmaier said.

The latest resupply mission arrived yesterday where Loral and Jasmin grabbed NG-20 using the Station's robotic arm and docked it with the Space Station. It brings about 3.7 tons of cargo ranging from food to equipment and science experiments. One of those experiments is a 3D printer from

, that will bring 3D printing in metal for the first time to the Space Station. Once we unpack NG-20, I will install it in the European Columbus Module and hopefully see the first of four prints before I go down to Earth again. One of prints was developed by

, which will get the final print back and compare to the same object printed on Earth. Being able to print metal tools or parts in space instead of sending them up could be a game changer for future space missions and maybe we could recycle the metal of old satellites in orbit into new parts? This is far into the future but the metal 3D printer is a first step in that direction.

ce sera le Dragon CRS 30 lancé par une Falcon 9 depuis le Kennedy Space Center

A noter :

Il y a pas mal de traffic actuellement avec notamment le vol de qualification de la capsule Starliner de Boeing à gérer.
